Looks like we Louisianians are near the top of another of those research pieces that we'd rather not be.

Apparently its just not safe to go for a evening walk here in Louisiana, as we rank the 5th most dangerous state in the country when it comes to being hit and killed by an automobile.

The Governors Highway Safety Association just released the rankings of each state by how likely people were to be hit and killed by a car in 2014 per capita, and Louisiana was only behind New Mexico, Florida, Delaware and Nevada.  The top five safest states were Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa, Maine and Ohio.

Some other statistics from the research indicated that it was dark outside when 72% of pedestrians were hit and 15% of the time, the drivers were drunk.

Also noteworthy from the survey taught us that pedestrians are much less likely to be struck crossing the street at an intersection than just randomly crossing at other locations.
