Two local teen age boys are now officially the best in the nation!

Mason Pitts is a 13 year old 8th grader at Haughton Middle School and Tyler McGuffee, 14, a home schooled 9th grader, have spent half of their lives roping steers together.  The two boys partnered when Mason was 6 and Tyler was 7, and that partnership has garnered them scores of awards, but none greater than the buckles and saddles they earned last Saturday.

After winning the Team Roping Championship at the Louisiana Junior High Rodeo State Finals these boys really focused their attention on the trip to Des Moines, Iowa and the National Junior High Finals Rodeo.

Having made a disappointing trip to the finals last year where they didn’t even make the short round, these boys spent countless hours working in the pen to prepare for the national stage.

Those efforts came to fruition Saturday night as the two were declared the Team Roping National Junior High champions with a time of 27.06 on three rides.

Congratulations boys and thank you for making us look good here in North Louisiana!
