Sometimes people forget that diamonds actually have extremely humble beginnings. They actually began as an old chunk of coal. But after a lifetime of pressure and persistence, they emerge as one of the most beautiful of all God's creations.

As we were told by Kaylee Remedes, JonPaul Calcote similarly began his life as "an old chunk of coal" but those beginnings have now become an integral part of his testimony and his dedication to so many causes in the area have made him a completely different person.

And it's that "new" person, with a heart of gold that Kaylee wrote us about in his nomination letter and exactly why he was a sure thing as this week's recipient of the Kiss Country Caught in the Act Award.

Just look at Kaylee's letter and you'll see why.

I met JonPaule two years ago when I went to him for microblading. To say that I met the most amazing person is an understatement. JonPaule is one of the top makeup and permanent makeup artist in the area, but his journey to get here was a long rough road. He spent many years battling his addictions and now spends a lot of his time to mentor those who struggle with the same issues. He is a huge activist of CADA and is always open to share his story to help others. He is a part of so many non-profits to help volunteer to make this city a better place. He is passionate and has a drive that is impossible to miss. He spends most of his time volunteering for CADA, animal shelters, organizing fundraisers, and being a part of committees to do better around our community. I honestly do not know how he has time to do all that he does, but he has been an inspiration in my life. I am beyon d blessed to have a friend like him and his beauty shines from the inside out.
