Victim’s Name Released in Shreveport’s 58th Homicide

A man shot and mortally wounded in southwest Shreveport late Friday, September 8, 2023, has been named by the Caddo Parish Coroner's office.

Demetrius Markeith Owens, 29, of Rodessa, was attempting to enter an apartment in the 9100 block of Walker Road just after 10:35 p.m. when he was shot several times by another man at the apartment.

He was transported to Ochsner LSU Health hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds at 11:14 p.m.

Owens was positively identified through fingerprint comparison.

The slaying, the 62nd in Caddo Parish in 2023 and the 58th in the Shreveport city limits, remains under investigation by the Shreveport Police Department.

An autopsy was authorized.
