The State of Louisiana is picking up COVID-19 vaccinations at an exceptional rate. Just this week, Governor John Bel Edwards expanded the access to nearly 500,000 Louisiana residents, bringing the total number of eligible people to 1.6 million in the state. That's roughly half of the adult population of Louisiana.

The Governor also stated that the Federal Government will be increasing the state's vaccine supply to over 90,000 additional shots per week. But noted that number was a "floor", meaning the state will likely be receiving more than 90,000 doses per week, but won't get any less than that number.

Those numbers will also be increased by some additional supplies of vaccine the Federal Government will be sending straight to retail pharmacies. Which we now know will include the WalMart on Shreveport-Barksdale Highway in Shreveport.

Louisiana State Senator Barrow Peacock announced this afternoon that the Feds will be sending 1,170 COVID-19 vaccine doses to that Shreveport WalMart. These vaccines are available starting today, and going through March 15th (from Thursday to Monday of each week – today through March 1; March 4-8; and March 11-March 15). People who want the vaccine from this WalMart location will still need to meet the state's vaccine eligibility guidelines, and will need to make an appointment at this website.

These 1,170 doses being sent to that Shreveport location are not part of the state's overall supply shipment from the Federal Government, but an additional supply. This particular Shreveport WalMart will also not be alone for this program. Additional retail pharmacies will be added soon, with additional supplies from the Feds.
