For years, drivers in Northwest Louisiana have complained that "no one is doing anything about these terrible roads around here."

The sheer volume of road construction and improvement projects currently in the area suggest that is certainly no longer the case.

In an effort to address the many deteriorating roads and bridges in the area, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has addressed a number of the most problematic issues and it would appear that this coming Monday, March 10, they will notch another of these in their belt.

In a notice from the DOTD, we learn that Monday, the left side of the US 71 (Market Street) southbound couplet bridges over the ICG Railroad in downtown Shreveport will be closed.

This bridge is located approximately 0.22 miles south of the intersection with US 80 (Texas Street). For long time locals, it's the side of the bridge nearest the former offices of The Shreveport Times newspaper.

DOTD states the closure will begin at approximately 6:00 am and will remain closed until 3:00 pm while crews perform repair work to the structure.

Though southbound traffic in this area will experience lengthy delays, the good news is that the right side of the couplet bridges will remain open to traffic.

Of course, as with any work of this nature, inclement weather could postpone, extend or alter the scheduled work day/hours.

And please heed this Safety Reminder from LA DOTD:

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.

Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
