By now, you know I'm the crazy horse lady on the radio and one my favorite events of the year is this weekend at Double Rainbow Farm in Haughton, LA. I just love dressing up, hence my penchant for Mardi Gras... Pictured above is my costume from last year. Get it? Pony keg? Red Solo cup? Nevermind!

Both Saturday and Sunday, October 21st and 22nd, 2017 hunters and jumpers from around the region will come together for the final NLEA (North Louisiana Equestrian Association) recognized show of the year.

What's different about this show? You'll see riders and their horses in costume! There will be special costumed jumping classes Saturday and a costume contest 30 minutes after the conclusion of the jumper class Saturday afternoon. In the past, there have been some really inventive costumes! I've seen Flo from the Progressive Insurance ads, the Headless Horseman, plenty of princesses, etc...

There will also be prize money in the $300 hunter and jumper classic finals and the mini medal and medal finals.

Being that it's a busy time of year and the final hunter/jumper show of the season, management will be taking late entries, so you still have time to pull together a costume and earn some coveted year end points for the PJH High Point Rider of the Year Award and for the annual NLEA awards banquet in January. This is also a perfect opportunity for jumpers to school before next weekend's Holly Hill Fall Horse Trials.

If you've got a child who's got the horse bug, this is also a great chance to get out and meet area horse people and see some gorgeous horses and ponies up close and personal. The show is open to the public and they offer concessions on site. The address for Double Rainbow is 1860 Adner Road, Haughton, LA. For questions, you can call (318) 949-9133.
