When Haughton Elementary School first opened earlier this year, the first ever students had no idea that they would be blessed with an SRO Officer who would truly care about them and always put their needs above his own.

But that's exactly what they got, when Bossier Parish Sheriff's Deputy Cedric Payne was named the school's first ever SRO Officer.

We learned about this real life "super hero" from one of the student's parents, Stormie Coile, in her nomination letter. Stormie made it extremely easy to name Deputy Payne, this week's recipient of the Kiss Country Caught in the Act Award.

Just see her letter:

I want to nominate Deputy Cedric Payne for the Caught in the act award. Deputy Payne is SO deserving of this award. He's my boys' SRO officer at Haughton Elementary school. He is the KINDEST soul you'll ever meet. He truly loves all of the children at HES. There's days when its pouring down rain and you can bet Deputy Payne will be standing in the middle of highway 157 with his yellow pancho on and a huge smile on his face while doing it. I have yet to meet one single kid who doesn't love him. He has such a great relationship with the kids. He is a great role model. He even has my three year old putting his play badge on every morning and saying look mommy I Deputy Payne. Not only is he a great SRO but I do know he's a father and a husband. With the way the world is going now with all of the hate towards our police officers, lets shine some light on them all and let them know how appreciative we all are for what they continually do for not only our community, but our children too. I just want to show him how much we truly appreciate him! We love Deputy Payne. And we also love his little sister Demetris Payne for helping us plan this huge surprise for her big brother

Deputy Cedric Payne, thank you for being one of the "good guys" and being a big reason why this is the greatest place in America to live!

And because you've been 'Caught in the Act' the gang at Silver Star Smokehouse and Silver Star Grille have a $100 Gift Certificate for you and the family to come have dinner!

Take a listen to the phone call we made to Deputy Payne to let him know that he was this week's Caught In The Act Award recipient.
