Confederate Monument at Caddo Courthouse Finds New Home

It now stands, shrouded in a box, in the place it’s stood for more than a hundred years, but because of its perceived “offensive nature”, the monument commemorating those who fought and died for the Confederacy, will have a new home.

After the litigation dust has settled, the Confederate monument at the Caddo Parish Courthouse will ultimately be moved to private property at the Pleasant Hill battlefield site, approximately eighteen miles south of Mansfield, on Highway 175 in DeSoto Parish.

In a story first reported by KTBS, we’re reminded that in an agreement between the Shreveport Chapter No. 237 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and Caddo Parish Commission, the commission would pay for the removal and relocation of the monument and though the cost has yet to be determined, the commission did budget $500,000 for the expense.

KTBS also reported that the Louisiana Division of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans owns the monument and they are willing to accept it once it’s removed from its foundation.
