The City of Shreveport has purchased more land on the bank of Cross Bayou. This purchase happened last year while city leaders were in negotiations about the Gateway Development proposal for Cross Bayou.

We know the city has nearly $3 million dollars left from the 1996 bond issue. That vote provided $5 million dollars to purchase land for the purpose of building a park on the riverfront. No park has ever been built.

We have learned Mayor Adrian Perkins bought land next to the Convention Center on Cross Bayou. The City has purchased the site of the old D'Anna Produce building on Market street. This property is right on the waterfront. The City spent $466,000 dollars on the property. We are waiting to obtain a copy of the appraisal but have learned it comes in right at the sales price.

Here's the documentation on the sale.

After reviewing these documents I have some questions about this deal. No council members we talked to knew anything about this purchase. Should the council be briefed on land purchases of this size?

I did send this list of questions to the City Attorney and the Chief Administrative Officer this morning:

I would like a copy of the appraisal for the property at 90 Market Street which was purchased by the city last year.
I would also like to know what city fund the money came from to buy this property.
What is the city's plan for this property?
As soon as I get answers, I will let you know.
