Child Hit By Car; Driver Arrested

Bossier City police have arrested a local man who seriously injured an 8-year-old girl after striking her with his car.

Police say 20-year-old Jose Pedro Mata fled the scene after the incident on Anthony Street. The child was taken to University Health in Shreveport with non-life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses helped the child and told police they saw the car that hit the girl. The vehicle stopped at a nearby home and Mata ran inside.

Police arrested him for hit and run, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and for not having a driver's license. He's been booked into the Bossier Parish Maximum Security Facility.
