The National Weather Service briefed Chief Deputy Charlie Owens of the Bossier Sheriff’s Office, Bossier City Mayor Lo Walker, Bossier Parish Police Jury and Bossier officials this morning at the Bossier Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness about the upcoming crest of the Red River.

Hydrologist Craig Ross says the Red River will reach 32.5 feet on July 1, about five feet less than the historic crest of 37.1 feet two weeks ago.  Bossier officials remind residents this is still 2.5 feet above flood stage of 30 feet and are asking residents to monitor the situation as the days progress.

Here are Bossier updates based on today’s meeting:

  • Bossier Parish officials are watching the water levels closely, and they are staying in contact with residents, businesses, roadways and lands that previously flooded.   The Bossier Sheriff’s Office, Bossier Parish Police Jury and officials are closely monitoring Cash Point RV Park, River Bluff, Buckhall Road area, Red River South Marina, South Bossier, Highway 537 and Ash Point Road.  Although this flood event is not expected to be as severe, officials are taking precautionary measures against potential high water, and points of distribution for sandbags remain well-stocked.
  • NWS says the water level should be around 28 feet through late Thursday and then start to rise Friday, ultimately cresting around 32.5 feet on July 1.
  • No major backwater flooding is expected in south Bossier Parish; Bayous Dorcheat and Bodcau appear to be receding. However, some flooding could occur on lakefront property and secondary roads along Lake Bistineau. Camp owners are urged to take precautions against high water effect on docks and boathouses.
  • Results from Tuesday’s Multi Agency Resource Center show 29 of 36 families impacted by the recent flood waters have been served. One more MARC event is scheduled for Thursday, June 25 from 4-7 p.m. at the Bossier Sheriff’s Office substation at 2510 Viking Drive in Bossier City.  Free tetanus shots will also be available.
