A couple of weeks ago, I was in Benton and decided I'd take the back roads back home. Big mistake!

It had been over a year since I had travelled Highway 162 and Highway 157 towards Bellevue Road, so I had no idea of the adventure I was about to embark on.

After several miles, and nearing Bellevue, I began to believe the signs I had been seeing. Yes, the bridge over Bodcau Bayou Relief, east of Midway and north of Bellevue, was out.

I kept thinking to myself that it must be another bridge beyond Bellevue that was out. The Bodcau Bayou Relief Bridge was out just a couple of years ago, so it couldn't be out again. Wrong!

Apparently, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development had already advised motorists that the bridge would be out for about three weeks beginning on Monday, October 18 but I wasn't paying attention.

After diverting my drive all the way through Bodcau Wildlife Management Area, I decided that I would believe those signs every time I saw them in the future.

Well, good news this week from the LaDOTD! For anyone who travels this area in North Bossier Parish, that area of Highway 157 has been reopened!

Crews have completed the bridge pile repair and replacement and the highway was reopened on Monday, November 1.
