We recently received word of an incredible undertaking by a local high school senior that will directly improve the potential safety of all our local law enforcement and it's our hope that you'll take part in this cause.

Below is a portion of a letter we received from Blake Woodward of the Desoto Parish Sheriff's Office.

My name is Kellie Abbott and I am senior at Haughton High School. I was motivated by an unspeakable tragedy to try and help improve officer safety. I have been working diligently since August 2012 to improve officer safety. On October 24, 2010 Sergeant Tim Prunty of the Shreveport Police Department was killed in the line of duty. Sergeant Prunty suffered from a gunshot wound that resulted in a traumatic bleeding injury. Police officers like Sergeant Prunty go to work each day just like we do, and they deserve to have every piece of safety equipment available to make sure they return home each night.

After Sergeant Prunty’s death I felt it was important to make an impact on law enforcement safety. Through a news report I learned about QuikClot Combat Gauze and how it can slow down traumatic bleeding until an individual can receive medical treatment. Immediately, I realized that QuikClot Combat Gauze could have helped to save Sergeant Prunty’s life that night. Having the knowledge of a tool that could help to save a life and address a critical need in law enforcement safety compelled me to organize a fundraiser to make a difference.
