You don't have to look far these days to find a group of young softball or baseball players standing on street corners, hanging out in parking lots or loads of other places asking for donations, washing cars or selling baked goods trying to raise much needed funds to attend regional, state or national championship tournaments.

Our area abounds in awesome young athletes, but some times these athletes are challenged because the tournaments are frequently long distances away and, in some cases, due to the number and length of the tournaments, can truly challenge parents' finances.

Having gone through this several times myself with my sons, I can attest that most summer vacations are limited to wherever the next tournament might be, and the cost alone, can be staggering.

So, when you see these kids with helmets, water hoses, or a tin of brownies in hand, try to help out with a couple bucks if you've got it to spare.

There's a Mom and Dad nearby that are truly grateful for your kindness.
