Shreveport Bossier Weekend Events June 16-17
We made it to the weekend! Time to enjoy the farmer’s market, get up close and personal with chimpanzees, or take part in a Louisiana’s bicentennial celebration. It’s going to be a warm sunny weekend with a high of 90 degrees, so head out early this morning to enjoy Father’s Day weekend.
Louisiana’s Bicentennial Celebration
A FREE celebration of 200 years of Louisiana history this Saturday at the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum (at the Fair Grounds, 3015 Greenwood Road, Shreveport.) Enjoy live music, an antique car exhibit and soak up some history.
Free and open to the public, visitors will be able to view the chimpanzees in their naturalistic environment as they forage for fruit, vegetables and leaves, and talk to staff about the chimpanzees’ personalities and natural behavior. The next chance to enjoy Discovery Day is in September, so don’t pass up on this if you are interested! Today’s theme is “Vacation at the Beach”. A new event following Chimpanzee Discovery Days, called “Chimp Chat & Chew”, was launched in March, 2010. Chimp Chat & Chew includes a behind the scenes tour, lunch and a presentation by a staff member. ($30 adult/$15 child)
Shreveport Farmers’ Market is under the pavilion at Festival Plaza in Downtown Shreveport. Saturday hours are 7AM-Noon.
The Farmer’s Market is covered and takes place rain or shine. And of course, during the summer, its hot!
With over 150 vendors, there’s so much more than corn and honey at the Shreveport Farmer’s Market! Market days feature live music, check out the lineup!
