Seems like "shark" is the buzzword all over the country this week.  While the Discovery and National Geographic channels both started their celebrations yesterday, Sci-Port kicked off it's Shark Week today (July 6) and will run through Sunday, July 12.

Head for Sci-Port for dissections, make your own take home fossil, and learn all about the ecology of sharks and their relatives. This is not an exhibit.

Daily programs will include:
- Shark Dissection: Get up close as they dive into the anatomy of sharks and their stingray relatives. Observe the dissection, learn their anatomy, and even hold or touch the organs (safety gear provided). They'll dissect a stingray and review a dissected shark at 11 am, and then dissect a shark and review a dissected stingray at 2 pm daily.** Only 2 pm dissection (of both a shark and stingray) will be held on Sunday, July 12.
- Shark Sense: Learn what senses are needed to become the top predator of the seas.
- Flying Fins: How does the shape of the fins effect how an animal moves?
- Fearsome Floaters: Without a swim bladder... just how does a shark stay afloat?
- Sandy Shark Rubbing: Using sandpaper, color a model of a shark.
- Paper Jaws: Make a model of a set of shark chompers.
- Fossil Making: Using molds and plaster make a fossil of your choice including a megalodon tooth.

IMAX® Dome Theatre will be showing Journey to the South Pacific Monday to Saturday: 11 am, 1 and 3:30 pm and Sunday: 1:30 and 3:30 pm.
