Apparently our Cajun heritage in Louisiana comes with a price tag.  There's something about being Cajun that makes us more susceptible to carry what's known as the "Tay-Sachs" gene. About one in 27 Cajuns test positive for the gene, but the disease can only be passed on when both parents carry the gene, and even then, there is still only a slight chance the child will inherit the disease.

However, one of those children was 26 month old Lexi Gordon. Both of her parents were carriers of the gene, but neither was aware of it.

There is no cure for Tay-Sachs, and with so few cases of the disease, research is slow and limited.  And that’s exactly why Bryan and Tracy Gordon are holding the “2013 Lexi For Life 5K” this Saturday morning.  To raise much needed funding and awareness of this horrible disease.
