Kate Gosselin, one time reality television star went on the Today show Thursday to convince viewers that, contrary to some reports and comments from her ex-husband Jon Gosselin, her children are fine and have no developmental disabilities. However, the move may have backfired.

Gosselin's 13-year-old twin daughters, Cara and Mady, clammed up and essentially refused to speak prompting some awkward (and unsuccessful) prodding by their mother.

Gosselin told Today co-host Savannah Guthrie that Cara and Mady are just as bothered as she is about reports that say otherwise.

After the girls refused to answer any of Guthrie's questions, Gosselin uncomfortably piped up. "Spit it out ... Go for it, it's your chance," she instructed them, before telling Guthrie: "This is the most wordless I've heard them all morning."   Mady refused her mother's entreaties, telling Kate: "No, you just said it."

Guthrie finally asked Mady if the media has given people the wrong impression of her family. "I wouldn't say wrong. I would just say not the full story," the teen said. "A lot of people think that filming our show has damaged us, but it's only really helped."

Gosselin later made light of the interview on Twitter: "Thanks to @TODAYshow for having Cara, Mady and me on the show today! 1st live interview can render even the gabbiest girls speechless :)," she wrote.
