Riverdale Academy Has The Best Lunch in Kiss Country

Yesterday I had the honor of meeting with the great kids and staff at Riverdale Academy in Red River Parish. My escort for the visit was senior President Kiersten (pic above) who introduced me to six great classes ranging from 1st-6th grade. After I met with the great kids I was asked if I wanted to join them for lunch. Now, I’ve been to more than 20 schools all over Caddo and Bossier Parishes and all of the teachers and principals tend to say the same thing. The cafeteria prepared lunches are not what they used to be. So I was a bit hesitant to eat.

That all changed as soon as I went into the cafeteria and met the three spunky “lunch ladies” who cook for these kids on a daily basis. Cissy, Bridgett and Danell (pic below) work very hard every day to get the kids exactly what they want for lunch. I was shocked when I was offered up not only my favorite pizza but burgers, French fries and chicken strips as well. Cissy told me she gets to work every morning around 6am to prepare for the day. At 8:30 the kids get their order in…what? The kids order their food everyday I asked. Yep!! By the time the kids get into the lunch room the orders are ready and are truly made to order. I don’t get that kind of service at most restaurants. As I was wrapping up my visit, Bridgett asked me if I wanted some food to go. “No”, I said. Afterall, I didn’t want to give her more work she’s already busy. She asked are ya sure the fries are “McDonalds”. I smiled again said no thank you. That didn’t stop her she made sure I walked out with not only the “McDonalds” fries but a huge chicken strip and a diet coke for my journey back to Bossier Parish. I thanks the wonderful women took their pic (below) and headed home.

As I was pulling out of the parking lot the smell of the fries pulled me in. I’ll just have one. Yeah that didn’t happen. Bridgett was right they were “McDonalds” fried and they were awesome. Before I even got to 71 the fries were gone and so was the huge chicken strip. DELICIOUS!!!
