Five Louisiana Animals on the Verge of Extinction

Regardless of any debate regarding how it has happened, the truth of the matter is that lots of animals which once roamed the earth, no longer exist.

According to npr.org, in just 2023 alone, the list of animals declared extinct was updated to include another twenty one species, including several types of birds and a couple of fish; one from Ohio and another from Texas.

However, there are a number of species that are nearing the point of extinction and worthy of protection.  Five of those species are native to right here in the Bayou State.

Just last year, in February 2023, the website, cajunencounters.com took the time to list those five animals and while it's highly unlikely that any of us have actually spotted one of these before, their vastly diminished numbers is the likely culprit.
