What One Item Would You Bring Back from the 80’s to the Present? [VIDEO]
Today on the show, Gary and I will be looking to you to find out what one item you'd bring back from the 80's to present day. Of course, that got me to thinking and I've come up with a ton of options from my own childhood right here in the great state of Louisiana!
1. First off, I'd bring back the horse shows at the Louisiana State Fair grounds. I loved showing there as a kid! It was a great facility and as a kid there was tons of room for exploring and good clean fun! Everytime I see Chris Giordano from the Fair I ask him to bring it back. Maybe we should gang up on him? I also miss the old stables on base. When we first moved here in 1980, we kept our ponies right there at the end of the flight line at Barksdale. Here's a picture of me, thinking I'm around 6-years-old on my pony Ketchup at the old base stables.
2. Hamel's Amusement Park!!! I remember back when my mom worked at the old Riverside Hospital that we would have family day at Hamel's! Hamel's was the perfect size... not too big, not too small! I adored the kiddie barn and the log ride is a part of thousands of kids childhood memories here in the Ark-La-Tex!
3. My Barbie Dream House. I loved my Barbies. I could play with them for hours. I remember the year I got my Dream House. My dad HATED putting that thing together and every time you'd walk by it, things would fall out of the Barbie size refrigerator but I'd faithfully put everything back in it's place over and over again! My mom finally threw it away when I was in college. I sure miss that thing. I might would even play with it today! Some of the other toys I could get enough of were my stuffed unicorn, my plush Gizmo from Gremlins, my My Little Pony collection and my Smurfs.
4. The Fashion! I loved big hair, Guess jeans, Outback Red from The Limited, Tretorn sneakers with the velcro patches, Keds for danceline when I was a Blue Bell at Cope Junior High (It WAS Junior High back in the day), Jams shorts from Gadzooks in the Pierre Bossier Mall, Swatch watches and more from Beall Ladymon! Do you remember Beall's?!?!?
5. I loved the young adult books from the 1980's... from Sun Valley High, to Nancy Drew and the Black Stallion books, I was an avid reader!
6. It would be kinda hard to bring this back, but I remember riding in the truck with my mom and brother fighting over who got to sing which part to the song We Are The World... and try and pick out who was singing which part. My brother was older... I never won!
7. Finally, I'd bring back my old 10 speed bike. That thing took me all over Dogwood Park back in the day... from the barn, down the bike trails to the lake, it was FREEDOM!
