It's Independence Day weekend and there is a lot to do in Shreveport and Bossier City.

Take the kids to celebrate the holiday at the “In God We Trust” rally or downtown for the Independence Day Festival. Plus, not only is Trace Adkins performing in his hometown of Serepta but Sara Evans will be in town the following night at Margaritaville. South Highlands Summer Market at Mall St Vincent: Shreveport’s new summertime Open-Air Market going through August 8th, every Friday evening from 5:00 to 9:00 pm under a large tent outside the mall adjacent to the historic St. Vincent Academy.(more)

Firecracker 5 K: located at Mall. St. Vincent, 1133 St. Vincent Ave. from 8 a.m.-12 p.m.on Friday, July 4th. The run/walk will begin in the parking lot behind Sears and will weave through the historic South Highland neighborhood. $2000 in prize money is up for grabs including male and female winners will receive $500 each, with an additional $500 going to the person who beats the course record. “In God We Trust” Rally: Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington will host the 2nd annual “In God We Trust” rally on Friday, July 4, from 1-4 p.m. at the Bossier Sheriff’s Office Viking Drive Substation at 2510 Viking Drive in Bossier City. Everyone is invited to the free event to celebrate Independence Day and show support for the national motto, “In God We Trust.” (more)

KTBS Independence Day Festival: Festival Plaza in downtown Shreveport. The day will kick off with the Farmer’s Market with fresh produce for sale. There will be a cook-off sponsored by Brookshire’s, and country music lovers will be delighted to see performances from super stars B.J. Thomas and Rodney Atkins. Of course, the star of the Festival is always the fireworks display which will begin around 9:15 pm on the Shreveport Riverfront. (more)

Shreveport Farmers Market: The Saturday morning event at Festival Plaza kicks off at 7am features live music, homegrown fruits and vegetables. As well as, jams, jellies, prepared food, art and more. (more)

Haughton Farmer’s: The Haughton Farmer’s Market will run each Saturday from 8:00am to 12:00pm through August 9 in their brand new location at the intersection of Highway 3227 and Allen Town Road beside Tuscany Subdivision and across from Cornerstone. The Haughton Farmer’s Market was created to provide local people with a venue to sell their produce, foods and crafts. (more)

Trace Adkins: The 9:00 p.m concert will be July 5 during “Muddin’ for the Military” at Muddy Bottoms ATV & Recreation Park. Gates open at 10:00 a.m. on July 3 and the park remains open through Sunday, July 6. (more)

Benton Farmers Market: The Sunday-only outdoor market held at 495 Simpson Street in downtown Benton, will open for its inaugural season, 12:30-5 p.m. (more)
