Mike the Tiger is living large, even in this Louisiana summer heat. Mike VII is the only live tiger living on a college campus in the U.S. LSU has had a live tiger mascot for 87 years. His care is provided by LSU Vet Med.

How Often Is Mike Out and About?

Mike does go outside every day. You will find him strolling around during the morning hours checking out his environment and greeting guests who stop by to see him.

He typically gets out every day (even on weekends and holidays) between 8 am and sunset (though times vary). Crews take care of work in the habitat on Thursdays so he is usually inside in the morning while the work is being done. You can find those updates on his Facebook page. Visitors are asked to be considerate of others and take turns viewing. You also should know pets are not allowed at the habitat.

How Is Mike Dealing with the Heat?

Mike has plenty of fresh water to drink. He also has several shady spots in his habitat. He also has a gorgeous water feature flowing through his home and he can take a dip in the water whenever he wants. You will often find him going for a little swim to cool off.
