(KXKS Shreveport, LA)  While the improvements come with their share of obstacles, it's obvious that there is an increased effort to improve the roads of the Shreveport/Bossier City area.

Another of those improvements will actually begin later today and will close a heavily used section of a Shreveport street for the remainder of this week.

In a public advisory from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, we learn that beginning today, Monday, September 8, a section of LA 511 (W. 70th Street) in Shreveport, will be closed.

This closure has been deemed necessary in the effort for DOTD crews to replace a cross drain pipe located under the roadway.

Access to Meriwether Road from LA 511 will also be closed. Motorists will need to access Meriwether Road via Walker Road.

Since this will be a total road closure, all vehicles will be required to utilize an alternate route.  Appropriate detour signage will be in place.

This work will be done "Weather Permitting", so any inclement weather could postpone, extend, or alter in other ways, any scheduled work days/hours.

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.

Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.

Call 511, visit www.511la.org, or download the Louisiana 511 mobile app for additional travel information. Out-of-state travelers may call 1-888-ROAD-511 (1-888-762-3511).

Motorists may also monitor the LA DOTD website at www.dotd.la.gov, by selecting MyDOTD, or by visiting the DOTD Facebook and X (Twitter) pages.
