Two Byrd High School students were hit by a mini-van while trying to cross the street at Kings Highway and Line Avenue.

Shreveport police say just before 2 p.m., police arrived at the intersection to reports of a hit and run accident. Corporal Marcus Hines says an 18-year-old female and 17-year-old male suffered minor injuries after being hit by the vehicle, driven by an elderly man.

A woman who said she witnessed the aftermath of the accident told 710 KEEL that a man had to get out of his car and carry the girl out of the road, but police haven't been able to confirm that. The mini-van's driver told officers he left the scene because he had a doctor's appointment and the teens got up and ran off after being hit.

A witness said the students had a signal indicating it was safe for them to walk across the road. Hines said the man was attempting to turn southbound from Kings onto Line.

The students were transported to area hospitals for treatment. The driver was detained by Promise Hospital on Irving Place and cited for two counts of hit and run driving.
