A tornado watch means that conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes. A tornado warning means a tornado has been spotted on radar or developing in the sky.
To stay safe during a tornado warning, you need to know where to go and what you should do. The National Weather Service always recommends getting on the first floor of a building, away from windows in an interior room.

If you are in your car during a tornado warning, get into a building if at all possible. If that's not possible, drive away from the storm at a right angle. Don't try to drive under a bridge to seek shelter. That could become a wind tunnel and could be very dangerous.

This storm system has roared across North Texas bringing tornado warnings to the Dallas metro area during the afternoon rush hour. Warning sirens were activated across Fort Worth.
