With kids all reporting to school over the next week or so, we began to contemplate the education kids are getting these days.  Of course they learn all the basics of reading, writing and arithmetic, but it’s become increasingly obvious that kids are missing out on certain fundamentals in their basic skill set.  Most of these things should be taught at home, but apparently that's just not happening in a lot of cases.

So, we’ve listed the Ten Classes We Wish They Taught in School

  • Responsibility.  If you broke it, fix it.  If you did it, own up to it and suffer the consequences for it
  • Kindness.  A simple act of kindness doesn’t cost you a thing.
  • Winning and losing.  They’re not one in the same.  There are times when you come out on top and times you don’t and everything doesn’t require you get a trophy.
  • Timeliness.  Be on time.  It’s a sign of respect.
  • Dress appropriately for each occasion and pull your pants up.
  • Tell the truth.  Don’t lie, especially to make someone else look bad.
  • Forgiveness.  If someone hurts you, whether it was on purpose or an accident, if they apologize, forgive them and move on.
  • You’re only entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  Everything else requires you to work for it.
  • Life isn’t always fair.  The fair is where you ride rides and eat caramel apples and only comes once a year.
  • It’s not always about you!  Not everything, every conversation, every action or reaction is about you, so don’t always assume it is.

Of course, there’s a better written list of these that looks like this:

  1. You shall have no other gods before Me.
  2. You shall not make idols.
  3. You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.
  4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
  5. Honor your father and your mother.
  6. You shall not murder.
  7. You shall not commit adultery.
  8. You shall not steal.
  9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
  10. You shall not covet.
