Deputy Robert Teague of the Bossier Sheriff’s Office enforces school zone speed limits Thursday morning on Highway 3 in front of Benton High School.

School has been in session for a week now in Bossier Parish, while today is the first day for kindergartners.

Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington encourages motorists to be mindful of school zones to ensure the safety of children and motorists.

Give yourself a little more driving time when traversing school zones, and avoid any distractions while behind the wheel.

Be sure and put your cell phone away or use hands-free following the passage of a new law in Louisiana which prohibits the use of a hand-held wireless device while in a school zone during posted hours.
