If the sheer volume of road work going on in North Louisiana right now is any indication of the condition of our roads, they must have gotten in pretty bad shape.

From the replacement and repair of girders and pilings on the LA 169 bridge over Twelve Mile Bayou to the construction of a new turn lane on US 80 East at Wafer Road near Haughton, along with the construction of a new Jimmie Davis Bridge, and many other projects, our roads and bridges are finally getting the repairs we obviously need.

In an advisory just released today by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development we learn that this Saturday, May 2nd and Sunday, May 3, drivers should be aware of intermittent lane closures on I-49 in both directions at the LA 511 (70th Street) interchange (Exit 202) in Shreveport.

These lane closures will involve the outside (right) lanes of I-49 northbound and southbound on both days from approximately 7:00 am to 3:00 pm each day, and are necessary to allow crews to perform repairs to the roadway joints.

DOTD does note that the entrance and exit ramps at 70th Street will remain open during this work.

Of course, the work will be done "Weather Permitting" so any inclement weather could delay, extend or alter in other ways the scheduled work day/hours.

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.

Call 511, visit www.511la.org, or download the Louisiana 511 mobile app for additional travel information. Out-of-state travelers may call 1-888-ROAD-511 (1-888-762-3511).

Motorists may also monitor the LA DOTD website at www.dotd.la.gov, by selecting MyDOTD, or by visiting the DOTD Facebook and X (Twitter) pages.
