Spooky, spooky, spooky! That's what a lot of people think with regard to Friday the 13th. Some folks vow to never leave their house for fear of bad luck, while others think it's their lucky day! So how did all of this get started? After all, it's just a day on a calendar right?

According to Wikipedia, superstitions surrounding Friday the 13th started way back in 1307 with the Knights Templar who were arrested Friday, October 13th because Phillip IV of France and his counselors allegedly wanted the Templars' wealth. Others think the tales of bad luck go all the way back to Jesus and the Last Supper and Crucifixion. Folklore also points to bad luck surrounding the day in tales of Valhalla. Wikipedia also notes that 'publication in 1907 of Thomas W. Lawson's popular novel Friday, the Thirteenth, contributed to disseminating the superstition. In the novel, an unscrupulous broker takes advantage of the superstition to create a Wall Street panic on a Friday the 13th.'

So, what do Shreveport-Bossier residents think of Friday the 13th? I asked and here's what they had to say via social media:

Joanne Pappas
No superstition here but I love to mess with those that are.
Kristy Fred Tilley
Nope. I was born on Friday the 13th.
Lora Roberie Fontenot
I am not superstitious but… Working In the medical field… I have seen All The Crazy and it seems as though it’s more prevalent on full moons and Friday the 13th! Never look forward to it.
Mimi Church
I’m not superstitious but I do not like Friday 13ths. My brother died on March 13, 2015, which was a Friday. One of the worse days ever!
Elissa Larremore
My youngest son was born on Friday the 13th and his initials are HEL. Holden Edward. He is the sweetest most loving child. We laugh that he’s my little hellion. My mom didn’t like that I wouldn’t change his name because of that. Lol.
Kim Hollenback
Not on Fri but on Sat the 14th instead, including falling off a horse and hitting my head against the arena wall on the way down. Thank goodness for helmets!
Carolyn Dowden Mathews
Nope, not superstitious! My daughter and my granddaughter were born on the 13th.
Chock Holcomb
My lucky day and my lucky number.
Sharron Reeves Strawn
As the mother of two black cats who were with me for 18 and 17 years respectively, I can say I am not superstitious. Now, if something bad happens to me next Friday after proclaiming this on FB, that could change.
Mary Beth Lavery
The last FRIDAY the 13th that sticks out in my mind the whole world shut down! Medical people don’t like FRIDAY the 13th… people be acting a fool!

As you can tell, Shreveport-Bossier isn't too worried about Friday the 13th. After all, we have bigger things to worry about!
