United States Senator Bill Cassidy joined a bipartisan group of Senators calling for Congress to avoid fighting, and to certify the Presidential Election victory of Joe Biden.

The group of 10 Senators included 4 total Republicans, including Cassidy, Maine Senator Susan Collins, Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski, and Utah Senator Mitt Romney. In their statement, the group said:

“are contrary to the clearly expressed will of the American people and only serve to undermine Americans’ confidence in the already determined election results”

This group came together after a second group of Senators began announcing their intent to challenge the results of President-Elect Biden's victory. That group includes Senator Josh Hawley and Senator Ted Cruz, and expect to challenge the Electoral College's 306-232 win for Biden.

In addition to the Cassidy group, Senate Leader Mitch McConnell has advised Republicans to not object to Biden's victory. McConnell's approach was echoed by Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse on Sunday, where Sasse called the objections “bad for the country and bad for the party.”

Republican Senator, and long time President Trump ally, Lindsey Graham came out against the effort from Hawley and Cruz, but not because he isn't trying to defend the President, instead he felt like the effort didn't go far enough. Stating that the Cruz effort had “zero chance of becoming reality.”

The attempts to stop the objection are likely to fail, but it would also appear that the objection itself will likely fail.
