What started off as a joke ended up with me sweating bullets on a softball field. I have been going to a gym not realizing I was working out next to two very talented softball players that caught local attention when they dominated the softball field playing for Airline High School.

The Chaffin sisters are Bossier legends. You can't walk into my gym without the whispers of who they are permeating the air around you. Right now all eyes are on Raelin Chaffin, who is about to start her first season with LSU as a pitcher and has been described by many as one of the best pitchers to come out of the Ark-La-Tex.

Raelin Chaffin made the USA Junior Olympic softball team, she pitched a no-hitter in her last game playing for her high school team. She has all the stats proving she is one of the greatest pitchers bred right here in Bossier.

I made a horrid joke that I could hit off of Raelin no problem. Back in high school, I quit softball for golf and never looked back, so I am far from being comfortable with a bat. It became a running joke at the gym until I was finally told to meet them at the softball field to settle my trash-talking once and for all.

What was the challenge?

I would get 10 swings and if I could not make contact with the ball at least once I lost the challenge. There were several people there reminding me it was okay and they didn't expect me to get remotely close.

All it took was one pitch to have me realize I was in way over my head.

I was clenched the entire time. The fast-ball was no joke and it felt like it was coming at me over 100 miles per hour. There were times where I wouldn't even swing because I was so scared of the ball. Raelin may look innocent and sweet, but she is terrifying on the pitcher's mound.

It was the 9th pitch, and all I can say is a fluke is what helped me win the challenge.

I have a newfound fear and respect for the game of softball and I will definitely make it a point to go see Bossier's greatest play for LSU this upcoming season. Geaux Tigers!
