She saw how COVID was causing local kids to lag in their education and what's more important is that she saw the need and then stepped in to fix it.

In her nomination letter that we received from her dear friend, Sheri Martin, it was easy to see why Sandra was a perfect fit as this week's recipient of the Kiss Country Caught in the Act Award.

I would like to tell you about my friend Sandra Morehart. In 2021, after discovering that many students had suffered a lack of learning during the COVID shutdown, Sandra proposed to help them and developed a ministry at Barksdale Baptist Church. We started with 10 students and 7 volunteers, most of which were moms and grandmothers. Sandra has grown this ministry into a rich community resource offering free tutoring for students from preschool to college age. She has spent countless hours building and recruiting for this ministry which now includes many highly qualified tutors, including a number of retired educators, current teachers, a retired physician, an engineer, chemist and biology major, ensuring that she can provide high level tutoring for free. As of this fall session, she will have scheduled 3,000 hours of free tutoring serving as many as 50 students throughout our community. As a mother I know it can be difficult to find qualified tutors even if you can pay. But Sandra is building this FREE ministry and offering love, kindness, compassion and education to so many members of our community. I hope you’ll honor her with the Kiss Country Caught in the Act Award.

Sandra Morehart, because you've been 'Caught in the Act', John and the gang at the Magnolia Pit have a $50 gift certificate for you to come enjoy a great meal!

Take a listen to the phone call we made to Sandra to let her know that she was this week's Caught In The Act Award recipient.
