Once again, the Christmas season is upon us.  That means it's time for the hustle and bustle of holiday shopping.  If you've been out and about in the Shreveport / Bossier City area trying to check off everything on your yuletide present list, did you notice the joyous bell ringing?  Unfortunately, less people than normal have - and the Salvation Army's community programs are in jeopardy because of it.

The Salvation Army bell ringers stationed at the entrances of the busiest shopping centers in town are as much a herald of Christmas as seeing Santa Claus himself.  This year, whether it's due to COVID-19 fears or more difficult financial situation for most - that donation drive is falling far short of the goal.

According to the ArkLaTex Homepage, the non-profit organization is on track to fall $60,000 short of their goal this year.  That means after-school activities with the Boys and Girls Club, food and shelter programs for adults, and more may have to cut back on the essential and much needed help for the community they provide every day.

If you'd like to help, there are lots of ways to chip in.  The simplest way is to drop some change in the red kettle, but if you are strapped for cash - you could pick up the smock and bell to collect some money yourself.  The Salvation Army is short quite a few bell ringers this year, and they'd love to have your help.  You could also share the online link do donate for those who are staying away from crowds this year.
