You don't earn the title "Duck Commander" by accident.  You spend hours brushing blinds, honing your calling skills, dragging decoys all over God's creation, working on busted boats and outboard motors and by turning down Barbara Walters for an interview so that you can duck hunt.

That's how you get to be Phil Robertson!  And that's exactly what he did!  He sent Miss Kay in his place to meet Barbara Walters for her "Most Fascinating People of 2013” special.

The show will air later tonight on ABC.  According to a transcript of the show that was obtained by FOX411, Walters commented,  “Tell him I have never been superseded by a duck before.” “He would rather shoot ducks than talk to us, yes?”

It was at this point that Miss Kay did her best to explain the king of the Duck Dynasty.  “Oh yes. Between, uh, November and January, I told him I didn’t ever plan to die then, because, he may not be at my funeral,” she said with a laugh.

Jessica Robertson, Jep's wife, was also present for the interview and told Walters this certainly wasn't the first big event Phil passed on to do a little duck hunting. She added, “Well, he missed the birth of Jase, Missy’s husband, because he was in the duck blind and he wouldn’t leave.”  “And so yes, he missed the birth of his son.”

Of course, as any good Southern woman would do, Miss Kay jumped in to rescue her husband by explaining that he was “very young and immature” at that time.

But as all of us hunters know, being young and immature has nothing to do with it.  That's just part of what it takes to be the Duck Commander...and we wouldn't have him any other way.
