While many of us in the Shreveport area have complained about the rising cost of gas, groceries, and other goods and services along with the sharp reductions in the value of our 401-Ks, there are children who have been saddled with even bigger issues.

Through no fault of their own, Christmas for many of these kids will be just another day. Nothing special; no tree or decorations and certainly no Christmas presents.

Operation Santa Claus

That's where Operation Santa Claus steps in! To help Santa make sure that every child in Shreveport gets a Christmas gift this year.

Again this year, all six of the Shreveport radio stations owned by Townsquare Media, team up with the Shreveport Fire Department and the Shreveport Police Department, to see to it that no Shreveport child is left out at Christmas this year.

For decades now, this group has hit the streets of Shreveport and Bossier City to gather new, unwrapped toys for those who are less fortunate at this time of year, and then members of the SPD and SFD actually hand deliver those gifts just days before Christmas.

Additionally, through our "Barney Cannon Smile Run" each year we make sure the kids who happen to be undergoing treatment at Shriner's Hospital all receive gifts from Santa as well.

Of course, we could never make this happen without the compassionate and giving hearts of all our listeners.  And we're ready to get the party started.

In fact, Operation Santa Claus 2023 will begin on Monday, November 27 at 10:00 am when Santa Claus arrives here at Townsquare Media to visit with the kids who'll be here anxiously awaiting his arrival on a fire engine.

After that, we'll hit the streets on several occasions asking you to drop off your new, unwrapped toys or monetary donations for these local kids.

Below are those dates and locations:

  • Nov. 28 – 7-9am Brookshires at 9250 Mansfield Rd at Bert Kouns
  • Nov. 30 – 7-9am Brookshires at 3000 North Market
  • Dec. 2 - 2-4pm  Avalon Hair Salon
  • Dec. 5 – 7-9am Brookshires at 5828 Line Avenue at Pierremont
