When it comes to hole-in-the-wall spots, Shreveport is full of them.

Is there truly anything better than falling in love with a hole-in-the-wall restaurant? Or becoming a regular and a bar that's a little out of the normal? I think that what makes our community so great, there are so many hole-in-the-walls around town and so much to love about each spot.

Personally, I have a list of favorites but I've done the hard work of narrowing that down to five of my absolute favorites.

    Herby K's

You'd be hard-pressed to find one single Shreveport list their favorite hole-in-the-wall joints and Herby K's not be on their list. This is the ultimate hole-in-the-wall and that's why it's taking by number one spot.

    Secret Nicky's

For those who don't know, I have a real history with this secret Nicky's. Being an Evangel grad, I used to consider myself the expert on all things Nicky's Mexican Restaurant. Everyone at Evangel is loyal to Nicky's for whatever reason. Anyways, years ago a friend recommended the Nicky's downtown location and I laughed at him, claiming he's mixed up and there's no Nicky's downtown. Sure enough, it's there, right under the Texas Street Bridge and it is absolutely immaculate.

    Gullos Fresh Produce

To clarify, I'm talking about the Shreveport Gullos on Flournoy Lucas. I've got news for anyone who is unaware of the magic that takes place in this home-turned-produce business, so listen clearly. The very best burger you will eat anywhere in Shreveport is at Gullos Fresh Produce. I've tried every burger for sale in town, and I'm telling you, none of them compare to the majesty of this Gullos burger.

    Fatty Arbuckles

When it comes to hole-in-the-wall bars, no one can compete with Fattyn Arbuckles. Located under the Texas Street Bridge across from Secret Nicky's, it's clearly no wonder I spend so much time in the Red River District. Fatty Arbuckles is too much fun, no matter what night you pop in to say hello.

    Strawn's Eat Shop

Oh you thought I'd list my favorite hole-in-the-walls and leave out the wonderful Strawn's on Kings? It doesn't matter what you order from Strawn's wide-ranging menu, it will be delicious and you'll always want a little more. Plus, no one on the planet serves pies quite like Strawn's, so they have to be on everyone's list.
