The basic safety principles being practiced by most people during the Covid-19 pandemic will used for movie and other production with some additions.

The state's LED office, Louisiana Economic Development, has issued some best practices guidelines for those who are planning to resume production in the state.

In a press release, officials say that the usual suggestions are to wash your hands, stay six feet away from people, wear a mask and use hand sanitizer.

Some other things that are being recommending to people filming in Louisiana are the following:

  • Designate a Covid-19 compliance officer
  • Require face masks except for performers
  • Using digital scripts
  • Using digital call sheets
  • Limit access to production areas
  • Frequent hand-washing
  • Taking temperatures of people
  • Actively monitoring people for signs and symptoms of people

The LED Secretary Don Pierson had this to say,

We are doing everything in our power to ensure the health and safety of all who live and work in Louisiana during this challenging time. This commitment extends to the entertainment industry as we prepare to welcome motion picture production back to our state.. Our talented workforce has helped to position Louisiana as a leading destination for entertainment production for many years. With the safety of workers and resident in mind, we look forward to the return of film production here and the positive effects that activity has across our economy.

Pierson says they put together the Louisiana plan based on the following organizations 'The Safe Way Forward' guidance:

  • The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees
  • The Teamsters
  • SAG-AFTRA
  • The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists
  • The Directors Guild of America

Chris Stelly, LED's Entertainment Executive Director says,

At the same time, this production pause and the continuing growth of streaming services are increasing the demand for quality content. Louisiana is well-positioned to respond to these opportunities and help entertainment production companies ramp up quickly with state-of-the-art facilities located throughout the state, a deep and talented crew base and film-friendly communities.

The numbers from last year show that Louisiana residents made $167 million directly from their work for productions, and the industry spent some $538.5 million in filming costs.
