Sunday evening a couple guys in their early 30’s decided to do a little fishing on Lake Bistineau.  From what we’re told, they got turned around in the darkness of the night and somehow ran the boat aground.  Starting to sound very Gilligan’s Island-ish isn’t it?  Anyway, once the boat was beached they decided to hoof it back to the boat launch.  Well, bad turned worse and they managed to get lost.  At this point, they decided it was time to give up on their “male ego” and admit they needed help, so one called 911 on his cell phone to let  Sheriff’s deputies know of their situation.  Dispatchers were able to get a GPS coordinate of their approximate location and searchers then located the two.  Okay, let’s review this.  Two guys, who apparently don’t know their way around Lake Bistineau very well, decide that the best time to try it out is at night?  First bad decision.  Then, drive the boat fast enough to run aground in the darkness?  Another error in judgment.  Then, finally, in the darkness, on a lake you obviously don’t know that well, let’s walk through the woods to the boat dock?  Yeah..that’s where the train certainly jumped the tracks.  For anyone else considering this same endeavor.  Here’s a couple pointers from an old disc jockey who’s managed to get himself lost a time or two.  1/ Go in the daylight.  2/Take a map of the lake (GPS if you’ve got it) and 3/Oh never mind.  We don’t need a (3).  If you take care of 1 and 2, then 3 will handle itself.
