
Man Arrested in Shreveport for Beating Victim With Pool Cue

On April 26th, 2023, at 12:07 a.m., Shreveport Police officers responded to an assault and battery call in the 3000 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard. On arrival, the responding officers learned that a victim was suffering from severe injuries after a physical altercation.
The victim was treated for injuries by the Shreveport Fire Department and is expected to recover. The suspect was identified as Calvin Smith (3-11-2004), who reportedly struck the victim with a pool stick causing severe bodily injury to the victim. Smith was taken into custody by officers without incident and charged with 2nd-degree battery.
Second Degree Battery is a battery when the offender intentionally inflicts serious bodily injury.
Whoever commits the crime of second-degree battery shall be fined not more than two thousand dollars or imprisoned, with or without hard labor, for not more than eight years, or both.
