Former President Donald Trump recently said Kanye West showed up at his Mar- a Lago home in Florida with a friend, and ended up having dinner there with Trump. In a recent article in Rolling Stone, Trump said he me with Kanye to "help him," as he feels Kanye has been decimated personally and professionally. Whether that decimation was self-inflicted wasn't brought up.

In that same interview, Trump acknowledged Kanye as a "seriously troubled man, who happens to be black."  Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy took to Twitter to criticize the former president.

President Trump hosting racist antisemites for dinner encourages other racist antisemites. These attitudes are immoral and should not be entertained. This is not the Republican Party.

Cassidy was one of seven Republican senators who voted to convict then President Trump during his second impeachment trial, following the January 6th attack on the Capitol Building in Washington DC.  The House, led by Nancy Pelosi, impeached Trump for allegedly inciting the crowd that led to the attack.

Cassidy also 'crossed the aisle' to support Biden's Infrastructure Law, due to it's ability to help finance passenger rail service through north Louisiana between Texas and Mississippi along the I-20 corridor.

“If we can connect those two then folks in Monroe and Shreveport, and points in between, can then go to Atlanta or Dallas,” said Cassidy.

The Senate is expected to vote on the Respect for Marriage Act, giving federal protections for same-sex marriages and interracial couples, along with three amendments that will be presented prior to the vote. 12 Republicans are expected to support the bill, but Cassidy said he will vote against the bill.

“The amendments will go down. And the bill, I’ll vote against, but the bill will pass,” said Cassidy.
