It is a glorious day for the Shreveport food scene: Marilynn’s Place is officially back, and I can say with full confidence that it is better than ever.

For years, this spot has been more than just a restaurant; it is a local staple, a gathering place, and a piece of our city's culinary soul. Stepping back inside for their relaunch, the energy was electric, the service was seamless, and the menu, well, let’s just say the team is firing on all cylinders.

I took it upon myself to dive deep into the new offerings, ordering a total of seven items to truly get the full experience. From the classic Red Beans and Rice, which features the smoky, savory punch of Stonewall’s Favorite Down Home Sausage, to the perfectly crusty and overstuffed Po-Boys, the flavors are exactly what we’ve been craving. Marilynn’s is launching with a commitment to quality that makes it a Shreveport "must-experience" all over again.

However, amidst all the savory favorites, there is one specific item that currently has me in an absolute chokehold: the Cookie Butter Beignets.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. For some, messing with a classic beignet is borderline blasphemy. I’ll be honest, even I had my doubts. I sat there wondering, “Why would anyone do this to a perfect beignet?” But after one bite, I realized I will never question the culinary geniuses at Marilynn's ever again.

These are, without exaggeration, the best beignets I have ever had. While we all know that nothing can ever truly touch the nostalgia and tradition of Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans, these cookie butter creations are in a league of their own. They are warm, pillowy, and decadent in a way that feels totally fresh. I have already cleared my schedule to attend "coffee and beignet sessions" here religiously.
