To fully understand how criminal the acts of this caregiver truly were, it's important to know exactly what it requires to be admitted to hospice to begin with.

Passages-hospice.com says,

To qualify for Hospice Care, a patient’s attending physician and the hospice Medical Director certify that the patient’s prognosis is for a life expectancy of 6 months or less if the terminal illness runs its normal course.

You getting a better picture now?  An elderly gentleman, essentially given a death sentence, is looking to a paid staff to give him the best qualified attention and that's the exact opposite of what happened.

According to an article from brproud.com, the daughter of the victim contacted the West Monroe Police Department on March 7 to let them know that via a baby monitor installed to watch the care provided to her father, she had witnessed a nurse assistant bathing her father.  The assistant then "allegedly removed the victim’s milk container from a bedside table and turned away from the camera.  The nurse assistant then placed the milk container around his waist and placed the container back on the table a short moment later."

According to reports from the West Monroe Police Department, detectives seized the milk container for evidence.  The following day, March 8, in an interview with the identified nurse assistant, 67-year-old Donald Wayne Shaw, Sr., he admitted he had urinated in the patient's milk carton.

Shaw was immediately arrested and transported to the Ouachita Correctional Center where he was charged with Cruelty to the Infirmed.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
