I once read that, "You have not lived until you have done something for someone who could never repay you."

Lory Kowaleski has obviously lived. Without any hesitation she is an advocate for people and animals who could never repay her acts of kindness.

That's why it was so easy to name Lory as this week's recipient of the Kiss Country Caught in the Act Award.

What can I say about this woman, and be brief. She rescues animals that most won’t even consider. Old dogs with health issues. Terminal dogs. Injured dogs. All she wants is to give them compassion and dignity. She's a teacher so she doesn't make much money, but I've seen her give her last dime and do without to help someone with food for their pet or food for themselves. Recently in the last year she learned of a homeless man and his dog, who lived on the streets. She decided this was not acceptable and arranged to get him the benefits he deserved, got him to the doctor, got vetting for his dog, and got him into a fully furnished apartment for both of them. I can go on and on about the amazing heart she has for both animals and people. Her story of compassion to animals and her fellow man could never be posted here. Simply not enough room. The homeless man and dog she helped were recently discovered deceased and she was devastated. Yet she stepped up again and to claim both bodies and had them cremated and buried together as she knows he wished. Her compassion is immeasurable. Her dedication is unreal. Her heart knows no bounds. I love her dearly and the Shreveport/Bossier Community is so very blessed to have her. She teaches at Youree Drive Middle School, is a softball and soccer coach, works at Petsmart on Youree, serves on the Board of a Rescue, "Carley's Angels" and does so much more.
