Shreveport Man Behind Bars on Child Abuse Charges
The Shreveport Police Department's Youth Services Division has apprehended 38-year-old Cornelius Johnson on charges of second-degree cruelty to a juvenile and negligent injury. The arrest follows an investigation prompted by concerns raised by two juveniles to a school resource officer regarding physical abuse allegedly inflicted by a guardian.
Upon receiving the report, detectives responded and gathered compelling evidence, culminating in the arrest of Johnson. The Shreveport Police Department underscores the importance of active parental involvement in nurturing our youth. However, it strongly discourages the use of implements, instruments, or objects in disciplinary actions.
"We urge guardians and parents to actively participate in the upbringing of our youth," stated Chief Wayne Smith. "While discipline is essential, we advocate for its administration in a manner that prioritizes the well-being and safety of the child."
The Shreveport Police Department remains committed to safeguarding the welfare of minors and will continue to work tirelessly to ensure justice for victims of juvenile cruelty. The juveniles in the case are expected to recover.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty under state law.
