Shreveport Police Arrest Felon With Automatic Weapon

On July 22 at approximately 10:00 AM, members of the Shreveport Police Violent Crimes Abatement Team responded to the 4200 block of Lakeshore Street in reference to a domestic violence call. With the assistance of patrol officers and Shreveport Police K-9 units, 25-year-old Leon Williams was arrested and found to be in possession of an automatic weapon. No injuries were reported.

Williams has been charged with one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and one count of possession of a machine gun. This arrest is yet another example of how the Shreveport Police Department continues to pursue those prohibited from possessing firearms.

Chief Wayne Smith wants to remind citizens that SPD will remain committed to doing all it can to remove weapons from the hands of individuals who wish to harm others.

Manufacture, transfer, or possession of machine guns unlawful; exceptions

A. No person shall manufacture, transfer, or possess a machine gun within this state.

B. This Section shall not apply to any of the following:

(1) A transfer to or from, or possession by or under the authority of, the United States or any department or agency thereof.

(2) A transfer to or from, or possession by or under the authority of, any state of the United States or a department, agency, or political subdivision thereof.

(3) Any machine gun that is lawfully manufactured, transferred, or possessed under federal law.
