Did You Grow Up Country? 27 Memories That Will Take You Back in Time
There is a whole lot more of Louisiana that's rural than there is in the city.

Because of that, there are probably just as many "country kids" around as we have "city kids."
I grew up with a little bit of both in my little corner of Northwest Louisiana. While I knew how to milk a cow and have done it a number of times, I was fortunate enough that I wasn't forced into that twice daily routine for the duration of my formative years.
I knew kids that weren't so lucky. I remember my uncle telling me that dairy farmers never get a vacation. Those cows don't know it's Christmas or your birthday and even if they did, they really don't care.
And though we didn't have the actual work life of a farmer, I did grow up in the country and my dad instilled that "country work ethic" in his boys.
I've hauled hay for a quarter a bale and fought fire ants and hundred degree afternoons for every nickel.
Growing up in the country meant rising before the sun, working all day and early to bed. It meant suppers of fresh picked tomatoes and black eyed peas; mashed potatoes and fried venison.
It meant nights of listening to the coyotes that sounded like they were right out the window. It meant fishing in the creeks and hunting whatever flew, ran or crawled.
It meant church on Sundays and having a family close enough that whatever came along that required help, there was a work force large enough to tackle the job.
Yeah, the life was different than the ones city kids had, but I still think we country kids got the better end of the deal.
Just take a look at these 27 things you'll immediately recognize if you grew up a country kid too! These memories will definitely take you back a step in time.
