If you look at Nationaldaycalendar.com, you'll see that today is dedicated to those men and women working hard to get us our mail.

National Thank A Mail Carrier Day (also known as Thank a Mailman Day) on February 4th reminds us that someone makes sure the mail gets through 6 days a week 52 weeks a year. The day is a timely note of just how important mail carriers are to our daily lives. Take time out of our day to thank the mail person who is responsible for delivering our mail to us.

We're saluting our mail carriers. Remember their creed, "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds?"

Once considered one of the most stressful jobs in America, mail carriers take that creed pretty seriously. In fact, some carriers now even deliver on Sundays.

Though the volume of mail they handle today is only a fraction of what it was twenty years ago, they still process approximately 472.1 million pieces EVERY DAY. And they take a lot of heat for things being "lost in the mail," but the amount of mail handled properly each day was once described as enough to fill railroad box cars stretching from Washington D.C. all the way to Florida.

I come from a long line of Postal Workers. My Dad, Charlie McCoy, step-mom Kathleen McCoy, there's my Uncle Gary Brummett (the bald headed mailman from Grand Cane), my sister Sheri Flores, my Aunt Lorraine Brummett, and the executive plant manager of the main Shreveport office, Jonathan Carver, is actually married to my first cousin, Cindy, who also works for the Post Office.

So Hats Off Mail Carriers! Thank you for all you do!
