You know the (not so) old saying: Don't believe everything you see on the internet. And in the long run, you'll most likely be better off if you confirm whatever Facebook headline or story link you see before you comment or share.

That's why, when you see a quote attributed to the Center for Disease Control and it seems so outlandish, so outrageous, you double check by going directly to the Center for Disease Control site, cdc.gov.

And then you see it's true.

That outlandish - even frightening idea that the federal government could be considering moving people - those most at risk to Coronavirus - into COVID camps.

It all starts with what the CDC calls "The Shielding Approach." From cdc.gov:

"The shielding approach aims to reduce the number of severe COVID-19 cases by limiting contact between individuals at higher risk of developing severe disease and the general population."

Simple - and seemingly benign - enough, right? But then the explanation continues and one major term jumps out.

"High-risk individuals would be temporarily relocated to safe or “green zones” established at the household, neighborhood, camp/sector or community level depending on the context and setting. They would have minimal contact with family members and other low-risk residents."

Wait just a second! Relocated? Camp? Sector? And who exactly would decide who would be categorized as "high risk?" And what if those "high risk" folks didn't want to be "relocated" to a "camp" - and let's read between the lines here - for their own good? Is it a major leap to conclude that the CDC ( and who knows who else?) have had serious discussions about moving free and innocent Americans into these "COVID Camps" against their will?

Here's one more line from the cdc.gov explanation:

"...the shielding approach suggests physically separating high-risk individuals from the general population to prioritize the use of the limited available resources and avoid implementing long-term containment measures among the general population."

Take a hard look at the last part of that sentence. A number of people in government have had serious conversations about "long term containment" of US citizens not convicted of any crime.

It's an old Ronald Reagan quote. He called them the nine most terrifying words in the English language. "I'm from the government and I'm here to help."
